When he's out on a date, "on the first few dates I like to do interactive things so that I can get to know the girl a little better. Things like dinner and bowling, going out to a club, anything that lets me talk and try to cut up and have a good time. If things get past that point, I like to throw in more romantic dates because I do have a soft spot for romance. I like the movie nights at home, the candlelight dinners, and walks under the stars. I feel like this is where a relationship is bonded together and can turn into something special." As for that special someone, "I look for a date that can laugh and let loose. If a date is uptight and serious all the time, there’s no way that we will have a good time together. I enjoy laughing so my date has to as well. I also am a smart guy so my date has to be fairly intelligent herself. I really don’t like to feel like I have to do all the talking – a girl who is confident is a plus because she is more likely to show you who she really is and not put on a show. I like a date that is real and doesn’t play games. I am usually pretty good at figuring people out, so I pick up on subtle things that others may not, so I can usually tell if my date is lieing about something. My two biggest pet peeves are lieing and being ignored – so I definitely look for that when I first take someone out."

Dustin Lail is originally from “Lafayette, LA and currently lives in Baton Rouge, LA for college.” He is set apart from other models because “I was born handicap with a mild club foot and had a cast on from 6 months old through second grade. During this time, I learned to crawl, walk, and even played sports. I never let the cast get in my way of doing something that I wanted to do, and my parents never let me use it as an excuse for anything. What this did was build a strong resilience in me and persistence that doesn’t die down. I was born with something that was supposed to physically hinder me – but I didn’t let it and did everything and more that a normal kid my age was doing. So I feel like I have a drive to do things that comes from something instilled in me from birth, something that doesn’t allow me to stop when told I can’t do something.”

As we make our resolutions it is time to settle in for awards show season. We have altered the name of a raspberry martini we found on The Martini Diva.

1 1/2 oz. Creme de Cassis
1 oz. Chambord
1 oz. Raspberry Vodka
Juice from half a Lemon
Chilled Champagne
Fresh Raspberries and Sugar

Rim your glass with sugar and chill in the freezer. Pour all the ingredients except the champagne in a shaker with ice and shake. Pour into the prepared glass and top with a little champagne. Garnish with the raspberries.

Sugar Cookie Martini

Put down the rolling pin and grab your glass!
Indgredients:

1 sugar cookie, crushed
2 oz. Irish Cream
1 oz. Vanilla Vodka
1 oz. Butterscotch Schnapps

Directions:
Dip the rim of a martini glass into water and then into the crushed cookie. Shake other ingredients and pour into the prepared glass.

As for what he looks for in a woman, "the girl has to be genuine and not out to play games. I see a lot of couples cheating on each other these days. If I'm going to be all about somebody, I want the same amount of effort in return." So what's the most romantic thing he's ever done? "Despite all the late dinners in the city, I'd have to say the time I asked this rather amazing girl to dance with me in the street on a warm summer night. My apologies to the astronomy enthusiasts but she made the stars look bad. I'm proud to say we've been together for some time now."

Jesse J Update

The response to model & actor & musician Jesse J has been amazing. This week's interview article gave you an insight to who he is. We have received a lot of emails wanting to know what he is doing now. The image is from his appearance on the NBC show Chase. We talked to him a couple days ago and here is what he said:

My recent update is I did 2 reenactments for Hometown Heroes. Then, I recently came out in the TV show Chase and The Comeback Kid. Now, I've been in Virginia for the past 2 months working on Alone Yet Not Alone it's an Indian Movie but I can't say much more about that project. Thank you everyone for your support!

Andrew Makay - N2N Bodywear

On Display Men is proud to be working with N2N Bodywear designer and founder Andrew Makay. He creates more than great swimwear and underwear; his vision launched an apparel revolution for the traveler and adventurous metro-sexual.
I designed my first swimsuit at the age of 21 years old because I couldn't find anything in the US that I liked. It seemed to me that all the hot, sexy styles with a good fit could only be found on the beaches of Europe, Mexico or South America." Andrew says, "As a gay man in my prime, it was very frustrating. You work hard at the gym and you want to show it off and not cover it up with uninspiring board shorts or some other constricting style. What I found on the market in the US was not my idea of sexy at all."
Traveling as a cruise ship performer in the late eighties gave Andrew access to a variety of swimwear styles worldwide. However, it was on the beaches of Acapulco, known as the playground of Hollywood jet setters, where Makay discovered the "perfect" swimsuit. The turquoise suit was the inspiration for the new found career in men's swimwear and underwear.

When Makay returned to the states, he relocated from Wallingford, CT to Orlando, FL, where he bought his first sewing machine during a brief six month stay. He cut apart the infamous turquoise swim suit, made a pattern, bought scrap fabric and created his first swimsuit; thus sowing the seed for N2N. It wasn't until 10 years later, in 1997, that Makay opened his first retail store in West Hollywood, CA.

Having celebrated its 10th Anniversary in 2007, N2N Bodywear has evolved a fully functioning manufacturing and internet store in the up and coming area of downtown Los Angeles. Through its national popularity and international buzz, N2N Bodywear's product line now offers an array of uniquely designed swimwear, underwear, loungewear and athletic gear.

Alan Rust

President and Founder of On Display Men, Alan Rust, has been working in the male modeling industry for almost 5 years. He has worked with hundreds of models around the world and many excellent photographers. Alan has discovered some great talent that has gone on to successful careers in the industry. He has always tried to help new models avoid the bad in the industry and make the best choices for their career.
He says there are two pieces of advice he gives new models:
"You have to be careful and selective about who you work with." and
"You have to manage your image from the very beginning of your career; it is your brand."

Pumpkin Martini

This festive Autumn martini is like pumpkin pie in a glass. Try coating the rim of the glass with cinnamon sugar or sprinkle nutmeg on top as a garnish before serving.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz pumpkin flavored liqueur
1.5 oz spiced rum
1 tablespoon half-and-half cream

When he goes out on a date, Mitch Westphal likes to "honestly get to know that person, even if its just grabbing a bite to eat and finding out more about each other. I basically like like going and having a good time, I want to let her know who I am as a person and find out who she is as a person." As for the woman herself, he looks for " interesting conversation, personality is huge for me as cliche as that sounds. I love a girl that can make me laugh, that's really huge to me. I basically like honest, down to earth, fun girls that I enjoy spending time with. Also, pretty eyes and an amazing smile, you've got me in the bag." As for romance, "I haven't really been in a lot of situations to really be too romantic. I think real romance doesn't come through actions or gifts, yeah those are fun to receive and give, however, I think romance comes more through experiences and words more than any gift you could get someone. Flowers never hurt either though."

Early Autumn

When I first saw this recipe I knew it had to be good, just reading through the list of ingredients you can't help but be intrigued. The Bombay Sapphire infusion of apples and pears are echoed in the cider and brandy, then there is absinthe and ginger beer for contrasting but complimentary flavors, and on top of all that the unique addition of Fee Brother Aztec Chocolate bitters. This is certainly not a boring cocktail. It shows off some of the trendy flavors and techniques that are hot and is a great example of the modern mixology at its finest. Adam Schuman of New York's Fatty Crab did a great job creating here.

Indgredients:

1.5 oz. Bombay Sapphire infused with dried pear and apples (click for recipe)
1/2 oz. Lucid absinthe
1 oz. local apple cider
1/2 oz. pear brandy (Adam recommends: Massenez Williams Poire Brandy)
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
2 dashes Fee Brothers Aztec Chocolate bitters
Ginger beer
cinnamon stick for garnish
lemon peel for garnish

Preparation:
Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lemon peel and cinnamon stick. Article courtesy of about.com:cocktails.

Our international model, Ben Kaplan, is now in India. Within the first 2 weeks he landed a TV role in a top Indian series. He is also personal training new clients in Mumbai. Here is what Ben posted:

After a few days of going back and forth, the production house has decided to give me the part of of "John Lang" in the Indian TV Show, "Jhansi Ki Rani" on ZeeTV, look it up online, its one of the biggest shows in India... This is no joke, what did I get myself into?? Now I am supposed to act while speaking Hindi?!?!? (0 experience in both!) I'm going to knock it outta the park, read my journals for the full story!

BITTER LEMON COCKTAIL

1 oz. Stirrings Lemon Drop Cocktail Mixer (32 oz. per bottle)
.25 oz. Stirrings Blood Orange Bitters
1.5 oz. Tanqueray London Dry Gin (25 oz. per bottle)
1 slice(s) lemon

In a cocktail shaker combine Stirrings Lemon Drop Cocktail Mixer, Tanqueray London Dry and Stirrings Blood Orange Bitters with plenty of ice. Cover and shake vigorously. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with slice of lemon.

Kale Roberts began modeling when “I was referred to Alan Rust with On Display Men by a relative of one of the models, I contacted Alan Rust shortly afterwards. Then once I met Alan, everything has moved forward from there.” Since then, “I have shot for the C-IN2 Support Nature Project and N2N Swimwear.”

“I am extremely excited to be a part of On Display Men, not only because it is a great place to get my image promoted all over the place and become an outstanding model, but for the reputation of the site and the people that I’ve gotten to meet and work with.”

When it comes to that special someone, Kale Roberts looks at "how comfortable I am with the person, how fast we can build a rapport and how much reciprocity we can establish. Someone who is not exactly like me. I like a date where we can complement one another on the things that are best about us and really enjoy each others company." So what does he like to do on a date? "I would say that I like to be pretty romantic on a date, so taking a girl out somewhere scenic and peaceful where we can hear each other and spend time together, just the two of us, makes for an awesome date. Some dates I like to go hiking or take a drive to somewhere new, going out for sushi or any interesting food places that I wouldn't normally go to." As for romance, "the most romantic thing I've ever done is watch the rain fall on a quiet lake with someone I love, it was peaceful, chaotic and pure bliss almost all at the same time."

Celebrate Cocktails

The American Dream is a tasty patriotic cocktail that is ideal for any American-themed occasion like the Fourth of July. It is the creation of Bridget Albert, Master Mixologist.

Ingredients:

   1 oz PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur
    1 oz black cherry rum
    1 1/2 oz POM pomegranate cherry juice
    1/2 oz fresh sour
    white fondant stars for garnish
    blueberries for garnish

Preparation:

Cut mini stars out of white fondant. Using water gently wet the back of each star and press into the inside of a cocktail glass. Let sit for 5 minutes. Fill a mixing glass with all ingredients add ice to tin. Shake well and strain into the star studded cocktail glass. Garnish with blueberries on a pick.

Wesley Wilson Works Hollywood

Our model and lead trainer, Wesley Wilson, has been working on the set of some top tv shows in Hollywood. He contacted us after he was on Entourage:

It was great to have been able to be apart of HBO's Hit TV Show Entourage!
The show has lasted to now it's 7th season! which will premier June 27th 2010 on no other than HBO. The Episode I was able to be a part in, took place in West Hollywood at Celebrity Club Voyuer. Not only did a bottle of champagne cost $10,000.00, but the classiness of the club brought out the characters performances. Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven), Eric "E" Murphy (Kevin Connolly), Vincent "Vince" Chase (Adrian Grenier), Turtle (Jerry Ferrara) and Johnny "Drama" Chase (Kevin Dillon) all took part in a scene that will have you laughing! In the middle of filming a scence they brought in Mike Tyson for a Cameo to take part in the background action of the club atmoshepre. I acted as an upscale club goer which you will see me in that same scene standing next to Mike Tyson as he sips his drink at the bar. Had a blast and I am looking forward to the 7th season!

1 oz. Cuervo Reserva de la Familia (25 oz. per bottle)

Irish Tiramisu

- 1/4 cup espresso
- 4 oz Baileys Original Irish Cream
- 1/3 cup mascarpone
- 2 scoops vanilla, chocolate or coffee ice cream
- 2 to 4 ice cubes
- 2 soft ladyfinger cookies sliced lengthwise or shortbread wafers
- Chocolate-hazelnut spread
- Chocolate syrup
Blend together espresso, Irish Cream, ice cream, mascarpone, ice cream and ice until smooth. Drizzle chocolate syrup along inside edges of oversized martini glasses. Pour mixture from blender into glasses. Spread a layer of chocolate-layzelnut spread in between the ladyfingers or sandwich between two shortbread cookies. Pass the cookies to dip in the cocktails. (Variation: Rim glass with chocolate syrup by dipping glass in a plate with chocolate syrup) (Serves 2)

The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska (above) (http://www.bouska.net) and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with "NOH8" painted on one cheek in protest.

Nearly one year since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign has grown to over 2,000 faces and continues to grow at an exponential rate. The campaign began with portraits of everyday Californians from all walks of life and soon rose to include politicians, military personnel, newlyweds, law enforcement, artists, celebrities, and many more.

The NOH8 Campaign has received overwhelming support from around the world, appearing on various local and national news programs and publications. The images are currently being used on various social networking sites to spread the message of equality, predominantly Facebook and Twitter. Eventually the images are expected to be compiled for a large-scale media campaign.

Funds raised by the NOH8 Campaign will be used to continue promoting and raising awareness for Marriage Equality and anti-discrimination on a global level through an educational and interactive media campaign.

Derek Nelson says in his spare time, "besides working out and modeling!!?? GASP!! No, writing pretty much consumes my life right now, with everything I’m trying to do with the TV show as well as auditioning for acting roles. I also love to dance, but unfortunately the clubs and girls here in LA aren’t like those back home, so I barely go out- I’m a nerd!" as for his sense of humor, "I love blue comedy! Old School, American Pie and Animal House- so great! Also, all my friends back home "The Bull Squad" seem to cause a scene and make me laugh out loud whenever I’m around them- no matter how long we’ve been apart."
